Opportunity Information: Apply for 25 536

The Responsible Design, Development, and Deployment of Technologies (ReDDDoT) program invites proposals from multidisciplinary, cross-sector teams focused on advancing ethical and responsible technology practices, specifically in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and disaster prevention or mitigation.

The program has two main objectives: 1. To foster and strengthen partnerships across academia, industry, non-profits, and government to support technology translation efforts. 2. To ensure that ethical, legal, societal, and community values are integrated into the full lifecycle of technology development.

Key goals of ReDDDoT include accelerating innovation in responsible, use-inspired research; building broad interdisciplinary communities to inform practices; educating and training the STEM workforce in responsible approaches; maximizing societal and economic benefits while minimizing harm; and empowering diverse public participation in early-stage technology development.

For fiscal year 2025, ReDDDoT will fund three types of projects: - Execute Projects: For established teams ready to implement impactful and sustainable activities around responsible technology practices. - Explore Projects: For emerging or developing teams seeking to test, validate, or refine new approaches to responsible technology work. - Inform (Workshop) Projects: For organizing convenings, workshops, and producing resources aimed at informing and connecting ecosystem players.

Eligible applicants include U.S.-based for-profit companies (including small businesses), state and local governments, accredited U.S. higher education institutions (including community colleges), federally recognized Tribal Nations, and U.S.-based non-profit, non-academic organizations such as museums, observatories, research labs, and community organizations.

Proposals must focus on one or more areas: artificial intelligence, biotechnology, or disaster prevention/mitigation. Project leadership teams must demonstrate relevant expertise in responsible technology design, development, and deployment.
